Most people will restart their computer to remove and idle processes. But if there’s a simpler way, why restart every time windows decides it doesn’t like you today?

1. Right click on an empty spot on your desktop and select New -> Shortcut.

2. Type: “%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks” in the box.

3. Click Next.

4. Give your shortcut a nice name like “Clear Memory”.

5. Click Finish and you’re done.

Now whenever your computer starts running slow click this shortcut to clear out your memory and get your computer running at a normal pace again

When installing Windows 7, you will always get asked what country you are from. Then, based on what you choose, Windows will give you wallpapers to suit your choice. If you choose United States, you will most likely get some scenic views such as the eye candy wallpaper displaying the national park and the outdoors treatment you can possibly find in the US. However, there are actually some other pieces of wallpapers that you can reveal.

These said wallpapers are stored in the C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT folder. You may need to unhide the folder if it is hidden.

To do that, you may want to push Windows key + R and type into run box %systemroot%/Globalization/MCT. If this doesn’t work click in the window Organize button, and select Folder and search options now select View tab there, you can choose to show or hide files and folders on the View tab.

Now first uncheck Hide protected operating system files and second click on Show hidden files, folders, and drivers apply and click ok, and you are done!

In the folder, you may see a few subfolders named ZA (for South Africa), US (United States), GB (Great Britain), CA (Canada) and AU (Australia). Inside each of those folders, you may find a subfolder labeled as Theme. When you get into the subfolder and run the file ending in .theme extension, you will activate the corresponding set of visual theme. You can then use this theme by right clicking on your Windows desktop and choose Personalization. You will see new themes under My Themes. Now just double click on the theme and you’re done!

However, if you find that the themes available in those folders are not quite attractive, you may want to get some additional themes from the Microsoft website. In addition to that, there is also a third party website which is pretty interesting to visit. The website author has compiled loads of wallpapers you can use for your Windows operating system.

To those of you who often need to work and present your work with a laptop, you will find that the easy external view explained in this article pretty helpful. Moreover, there is a pretty good chance that you may have come across quite a few levels of difficulties configuring your laptop to work properly with external views. No matter whether you are trying to configure your laptop to work with a VGA, HDMI or DVI output, you may have always wished that things are a lot easier. Well, your wish is granted.

If the version of Windows you are running on your laptop is Windows 7, you only need to hit Windows key along with the P key. You will then be given 4 options which are computer only, duplicate, extend and projector only. In this case, you are least likely to choose computer only as you are about to use an external view.

So, duplicate is the first likely option. Choosing this option will share the very same screen between your laptop and the external view you have connected.

The next option is extend. If you choose extend, what you will get is somewhat similar to multiple monitor outputs. You will have different screen on different views. On one view, you will get the main desktop screen while on the other one, you will get the extended or stretched part of the desktop which is totally different from the main screen.

The last option is projector only. If this is what you choose, you won’t be able to see a thing on your laptop. Everything will be displayed using your external view. The only drawback that may well happen in this case is the degraded resolution as most projectors may not support the resolution you have set on your laptop.

System Restore feature that Microsoft has built into Windows 7 may be pretty effective indeed in keeping Windows safe from troubles. Yet, the bad news is that it takes up a lot of hard drive space. So, if you are not a typical PC user, you may prefer to deactivate this feature instead. However, if you are worried about possible crashes considering Windows 7 is still pretty new, you had better leave this feature active.

To deactivate System Restore function, you will have to open up Control Panel and navigate to System.

Then, on the next window that appears, there will be a link leading to system protection. You will have to click on that link to open up the System Properties dialog box.

Here, you will have to choose from the list the drive on which you want the System Restore function to be deactivated.

Then what you will have to do next is to click on the Configure button and choose the option that indicates it will deactivate system protection. Apply your changes and you will be warned but you won’t have to be worry. Just confirm that you are sure with what you do and the System Restore feature will be deactivated right away.

However, in case you would like to have some protection left intact, you can change the space used by the System Restore function instead of deactivating it entirely. To do this, you will have to bring up the System Protection window again just like how you did before. But this time, make sure that you do not choose the option to deactivate the protection. Instead, simply adjust the usage percentage by dragging the slider in the disk space usage area to what you need.

If you use a Windows operating system, such as Windows NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista and Windows 7, chances are you have often noticed that there is a process called svchost.exe running in the background seemingly at all times. You can see running processes by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Shift+Esc altogether to bring up Windows Task Manager. It seems that DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries) trigger the Service Host Process. Unfortunately, there is no limit to how many sessions of this particular process can run. As a result, it may often end up using 100% CPU resources and can even freeze the computer.

However, what you should also beware of is that the svchost.exe may actually be triggered by some other applications. These applications may include viruses, Trojans, adware, spyware, malware and so forth. Therefore, you need to check what is actually triggering the Service Host Process.

In case you are unlucky enough to not be able to see all running processes in Task Manager, you may need to tick the check box that says “Show processes from all users”.

Then, if the User Account Control dialog box appears, just click on the Continue button.

Once you have been able to see every single process running on your system, the next thing you need to do is to see the real cause of the svchost.exe.

To do this, right click on the troublesome svchost.exe service and click on “Go to Service(s)”.

This will direct you to the Services tab with the corresponding service highlighted. When you have finally found out what actually triggers the svchost.exe that consumes 100% of your CPU, you can look over them carefully.

Then, if you are sure that there are not any other processes that may well be associated with the service, you may right click on it and choose Stop Service.

You need to be very careful about this. In case you happen to stop a service that is essentially needed by Windows 7 to run, chances are you will damage your PC and cause the system to become unstable. Also note that 100% of CPU usage may as well be caused by some other factors such as virus infection or a corrupt registry. Therefore, an antivirus or registry cleaning application may come in handy.

Still have problems? It’s recommended to run best registry cleaner to fix and speed your PC!

It has become pretty common for Windows Messenger users to come across a particular message that the application is unable to connect and that users may be better off retrying connection some time later. This would normally take place when users are attempting to log onto the messenger application. The error code for this problem is 80048820 and the extended error code is 80048416. The good news is that there are ways to get over this issue but prior to discussing the ways; it is of utmost importance to find out what actually causes the issues to occur in the first place.

Well, some possible causes of such an issue normally consist of:
- Improper SSL settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- The login information in use is incorrect.
- Incorrect system time or date.

Workaround Methods

Resolve the SSL Settings Issue

In accordance with the SSL settings issue, what users will have to do is to adjust the settings to the way it should be. This can be done by accessing the Internet Options under the Tools menu in the Internet Explorer application. Then, on the window that pops up, users will have to go to the Advanced tab and scroll the page until they are able to see the Security section. Here, they will have to deactivate server certificate revocation checking. Clicking OK will then apply the changes but before they can take effect, the Internet Explorer application must be restarted.

Check Login Information

To do this, users will have to launch any of their web browsers and then go to the login site for Windows Live. Here, they need to try logging in using the login information that the Messenger application has been denying access. Using the Forgot Password feature may also come in handy at times.

Check System Time and Date

As Windows Messenger is an application that makes use of real life time, it is crucial that the system on which the application is installed is provided with a correct time and date as well. Fortunately, checking the system time and date is not a hard thing to do at all. Users just need to focus their attention to the clock which is normally located at the right bottom corner of the Windows screen.

However, if none of the workaround methods suggested above solves the problem, it is highly recommended to check if the system registry or even security has been compromised. If the registry entries are no longer correct, it is not only Messenger but also other applications may fail to work properly.

Threat applications such as viruses, malware, spyware, adware, Trojans, etc. may also cause applications to stop working properly. Therefore, having tools such as Antivirus Plus, Registry Easy or StopZilla installed on the system may turn out to be quite useful.

Even though Microsoft might have expected its users to report errors that take place on the system, some users may find it rather annoying to get the Error Reporting notification every single time an error occurs and Windows is unable to handle it. Some users may simply want to skip the message at all without having to click on No again and again. Well, fortunately, there are ways to do this and one of the ways is to tweak the Windows registry. This will disable the Error Reporting tool so that it won’t appear any longer in the future. However, it is always best to back up the current registry before attempting to tweak it.

So, the first thing Windows users will have to do is to press Windows + R to launch Windows Run utility. Then, they can type regedit in the text box. This will display another window which is the Registry Editor utility. The next thing to do is to expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder on the left pane. Then, users will have to navigate to Software followed by Microsoft and then Internet Explorer and then Main. On the right pane, there will be an item named IEWatsonEnabled. But if users cannot find this item, they need to make one. To make the item, right click on any empty space on the right pane and then choose DWORD from the New context menu. Afterwards, name the item IEWatsonEnabled.

The next step is to modify the value of the item by double clicking on it. On the small window that shows up, users will have to enter 0 – which means false — as the value and this will disable the Error Reporting tool.

But this is not the end of the process. On the right pane, users will still have to find an item named IEWatsonDisabled. If it does not exist, they need to create one. The steps are just the same as they would IEWatsonEnabled. But this time, the value of the item will need to be 1 instead of 0. The value of 1 means right and this will keep the Error Reporting tool disabled once and for all.

Still have problems? It’s recommended to run best registry cleaner to fix and speed your PC!

Although it may also happen on other versions of Windows, it seems that Windows 7 is the most vulnerable one to Error 43. This is the error Windows users receive when one of the devices attached to their system stops functioning properly, possibly due to driver issues. Unfortunately, it may also trigger other errors. However, it is of utmost importance to keep in mind that error code 43 mainly shows up due to some problems with the computer hardware.

For those of you who are not so familiar about driver, it is a program that is meant to control the corresponding hardware. Driver usually comes along with the hardware you buy. Without a driver, your computer hardware won’t be able to function properly. So, when Windows detects something that seems wrong with the hardware, it will raise error code 43.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

So what you can do about this problem!

Reinstall Drivers

To solve the error, you may have to install the damaged the drivers all over again.

To do this, you can click on Start followed by Run and then type sysdm.cpl before clicking on the OK button.

Then, navigate to the Hardware tab System Properties and click on the button that says Device Manager.

Double Click on the Device Type

Here, you will have to choose and double-click on the troublesome device from the list.

This will open up the device’s Properties dialog box. Click on Uninstall and wait for the process to finish.

Then, you need to select scan for hardware changes which will lunch the Add Hardware wizard now reinstall or prompt yours device driver again.

Reconnect or Remove Yours Hardware Devices

Yet, if that does not work, you may need to open up the case of your computer. This way, you will be able to unplug the device from your system. However, of course, you will have to turn off your computer and make sure that it is not connected to the power outlets at all prior to opening up the case. Then, when you have physically unplugged the device, try plugging it back in and make sure it is not loose. This may trick Windows into considering that you have just attached a new device and it may then install a fresh driver for the device.

Clean your Registry

If that still does not work, you may have to do something about your registry. For your information, it is the registry that stores all information and settings with regards to your Windows operating system. So, there is a potential that error code 43 you are encountering is due to some false information in the registry. To fix it, you may need to download and install a registry cleaner that will solve your problem automatically. Fortunately, you can find loads of them on the internet today.

Still have problems? It’s recommended to run best registry cleaner to fix and speed your PC!

Microsoft had introduced a virtual machine feature, the XP Mode, when they released Windows 7 for the first time. With this feature, it is possible to run Windows XP under Windows 7. The system will act as if the XP operating system is accessed from another physical computer. This makes it possible for Windows 7 users to run older applications that may not be compatible with the latest version of Windows.

However, unfortunately, it turns out that XP Mode does not always succeed with what it is intended to do. There are several possible causes for this failure. It is not guaranteed to be compatible with all sorts of specifications since the virtual machine feature needs CPU hardware support, too. To check for the compatibility, users can go to Microsoft Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool website.

Another possible cause is that it may have been blocked by BIOS – Basic Input/Output System that exists on every computer. This is usually quite easy to solve. All that needs to be done is to go through BIOS and search for VIA VT, AMD-V or Intel VT utility and check if it is activated or allowed to run. For some extra help, Microsoft website is often a good reference.

The next factor is that some laptop or computer manufacturers may have blocked virtualization technology as a precaution to possible security issues. Sony is one example. They have been trying to block this technology in Vaio laptops forcing the users to edit the firmware that comes with the Vaio laptops if they really want to enable virtualization. Fortunately, rumor has it that Sony is unblocking the technology now. However, BIOS upgrade seems to always work when everything else fails.

Upgrading BIOS is not quite a recommendable thing to do, though. It may damage the computer once and for all. Therefore, it is more preferable to use third party utilities such as VirtualBox. This is quite a good choice since it does not require any support on the hardware side.

Still have problems? It’s recommended to run best registry cleaner to fix and speed your PC!
